Genre(s): Crime Thriller

Book Synopsis:

Maddie is just trying to ride out a hurricane, but when a rescue attempt turns into something diabolical, she’ll have to use all of her wits and resources to survive.

When a girl from South Dakota winds up dead in a New York hospital, FBI Agent Gabriel Faraday teams up with a seedy motel owner and a hooker to shut down the trafficking ring. But Gabe has a secret of his own that threatens to upend the entire operation.

Sam has everything he’s ever wanted; a beautiful wife, nice home and good friends. But his wife is keeping a twisted secret, and it threatens to destroy everything he knows and loves.

Billy was trained to kill by the best, and he doesn’t question orders. But when things don’t add up on a job, a moment’s hesitation could cost him his life.

Jack is just trying to bum a ride, but soon finds himself handcuffed in the back of a van with four other hostages. But Jack has his captors right where he wants them.

Five seemingly unconnected stories, filled with twists and surprises, that just might have more in common than they appear.

Review:

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Each story in this collection can be read as a standalone, though there are a few details in each that connect them to the others. Some stories were told from the viewpoint of the villain, others from the victim, a few from law enforcement, and some featured both.

These stories are not for the faint of heart. There are violent and bloody scenes in each, some of the themes are pretty disturbing, and even the “good guys” aren’t always squeaky clean. Every character had a dark side; some were obvious from the start, others buried it until the end. That aspect made every story interesting and unique, and I wasn’t always sure who was going to win.

While the stories aren’t short in the technical sense, the collection as a whole can be read in a couple hours. So if you’re looking for a quick read with some interesting and shady characters, plenty of action, and some surprising twists, definitely check out Liars, Killers & Thieves.
