The Relics of War (Series and Related Content) Timelines

I’ve had a few people ask for the specifics of when Serpentus fits into the Relics of War universe, so I decided I’d write a post explaining the timelines of the series and its related content.

Of the stories I’ve published so far, The Ballad of Alchemy and Steel is the first in sequence. It’s something of a prequel and focuses on the story of Jal’den and Sal’zar. (They’re asked to write a journal, which is what the Ballad signifies, and that journal actually makes an appearance in War of the Nameless.)

Then comes book 1 of the trilogy, The Moon’s Eye. This is where the story begins to focus on the events leading up to the Nameless god’s war.

Serpentus begins at about the 75% mark (time-wise) of The Moon’s Eye. The battle scene at the beginning of Serpentus is featured briefly from another perspective in The Moon’s Eye.

Serpentus spans across the remainder of the trilogy and ends at about the same place as War of the Nameless does. Since Serpentus focuses on a single character, I was able to cover more time in less pages.

I’ve written a few short stories that I’m calling the “Epilogue Tales,” that occur after the events of the trilogy. I’ve released two of them to my newsletter so far. Some of the Epilogue Tales occur only a few months after the war’s end, while others are several years later. It’s my hope to one day publish the Epilogue Tales as a short story collection, but I need to finish writing the stories first.

Anyway, I’m really excited for the release of Serpentus! It can be read as a standalone, and while I’ve said before that it’s dark, I still think it’s one of my favorite writing projects to date.

Look for it everywhere February 27. More details here: SERPENTUS
