A New Year with New Goals
I’m not usually one to come up with long lists of New Years’ resolutions, but I always have goals I hope to accomplish. I don’t always set a timeline for my goals, but I usually accomplish them eventually. Sometimes they take longer than I’d like, and other times I’m forced to alter my plans in order to do what is needed.
This is a case of altered plans.
As many of you who have followed me for a while will know, I have a four book fantasy series I’ve been trying to query for going on two years now. There comes a point in time when you grow tired of hearing, “I love your writing! I love this project! But I have x number of other fantasy projects, and can’t take yours at this time,” from various agents. I understand they’re busy and I understand they’re trying to pick up authors that “fit their portfolio,” but I began to seriously question the need to go the traditional publishing route a few months ago. I’m not sure it’s worth it for me – or for this series.
Now, I’m not giving up on this series. Not by a long shot. The Caein Legacy holds a very special place in my heart, and based on the feedback I’ve received from others, it’s the best series of books I’ve written to date. Not only do others enjoy this series, but it is my favorite as well. This series needs to see publication. I poured my heart and soul into writing that series, more so than I have done for other books. I will not allow Andrew Caein’s story to languish.
So, I have a new set of goals for this series.
This summer, I’m going to commission cover artwork and begin the process of editing for publication. (Hopefully my current editor will be pleased with the news that I have more work coming her way!)
If you’d like to learn more about this series, you can check out The Caein Legacy page on my website. As is typical of much of my writing, The Caein Legacy features the sibling rivalry theme quite predominantly. It’s also a bit of a shifter story, but not in the usual sense (no werewolves here, but dragons instead.) This is the series that got me back into writing after a ten year drought, and I feel that in writing it, I came to a turning point in my life. This series is too important to me to keep to myself and wait for the day an agent may or may not decide to pick it up. I’m done waiting.
Once The Relics of War series is published, I’ll begin releasing The Caein Legacy. I anticipate the first book will launch in 2023.
Thanks for reading this week’s post. If you haven’t heard the news already, The Moon’s Eye (book one in The Relics of War) is now available! The ebooks are currently on sale for $0.99 through January 25. Click here to learn more.
I will be releasing the cover artwork for book two to my newsletter at the end of this month.
