Book Review: Postscript by Barbara Avon
Genre(s): Paranormal, Romantic Suspense
Content warning: There are some scenes depicting domestic abuse and sexual harassment/assault (mostly in the form of flashbacks).
James is a wounded soul, grappling with his past and hoping to find true love. Lina is likewise damaged, but fearful of his intentions given her own history. It takes patience and persistence on James’ part to finally win her heart, but Lina isn’t what she seems.
Postscript is a tragic love story in line with several other of the author’s works that I’ve read (though unrelated in terms of characters.) Set in the 1980’s, the story did a great job of capturing the feel of that era, yet the theme is relevant no matter the year you happen to be reading it in. I feel it was very well done.
Both characters struggled with their pasts and were forced to work past them in order to find happiness in the end. As I said, it’s a tragic love story, so while they wind up together, it’s not exactly in the way I was expecting. But as those of you who follow my blogs know, I like the unexpected.
It’s hard to go into much more detail with this book without giving away spoilers, but I will say this: I really enjoyed the read.
