Book Synopsis:

Rohan once served the Empire. At great cost, he earned his freedom, and has since sought nothing more than to finish his shift in peace and figure out where his love life is going.

Then he receives a message from Earth, calling in a favor. A plea for the kind of help only The Griffin can provide.

Reluctantly, he recalls his mentor. The man who taught him how to live with his cursed Power. A man who had been the galaxy’s greatest hope, before the il’Drach sent him to his death.

What would Hyperion do?

Review:

Shadow of Hyperion is book 4 in The Hybrid Helix series, and an awesome continuation of this series. With every book, there’s something new to discover, and this one was no exception.

In this book, there was the Wedge, dinosaur-like monsters with enough intelligence to plan coordinated attacks, and a very major plot surrounding a certain someone who I won’t name due to spoilers that had a very interesting ending…once most of the questions about that someone were answered. Okay, I know that’s vague, but the plot was really good! Plus Rohan got to fight alien dinosaurs. I have a weak spot for monster battles, what can I say?

There are also some familiar characters that make a return, including a couple of my favorites, Wei Li and Ursula. Wei Li has some of the best come backs, and she always makes me laugh. Ursula and the other Ursans are just plain fun. Giant space bears for the win!

But what I love most about this series is the random bits of humor that pop up unexpectedly. Like the notion Poseidon would destroy a breakroom because someone put pineapple on the pizza. Or Wistful’s comment to Rohan, “You are quite charming for a bacteria-infested mass of putrefying meat.” (I’m a microbiologist. You make a joke referencing bacteria in some form, and you get points from me.)

This was a really fun read, and I can’t wait for the next one. If you like space operas and haven’t checked out this series yet, start with Wistful Ascending. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
