Character Profile: Vardak

Vardak is an elite warrior amongst his people, known as the Scorpion Men. All of his people are trained at arms from a young age, but Vardak is unique in that he was chosen for additional training and guidance by the god of war. Having been chosen bears a price: he is obligated to take on missions of the god’s choosing.

Only weeks after his training is complete, Vardak is taken hundreds of miles away from his homeland and ordered to act as escort to Janna, a woman with few worldly skills tasked to find a powerful relic by the fire goddess. The task will prove dangerous, and Janna cannot complete it without the help of someone skilled in battle. Oath-sworn to the war god, Vardak is compelled to assist Janna.

Vardak is one of the six main characters in The Relics of War, and the first readers will be introduced to. He has a quiet, stoic personality, and rarely speaks unless he has something important to contribute. He internalizes his thoughts and feelings, which makes it difficult for others to get to know him. Vardak’s weapon of choice is a two-handed battle axe.
