Legend is coming, and the universe can’t stop it
2024 has done its level best to derail all of my planned book releases (I had 3 of them.) But I am nothing if not stubborn, and I’m determined to see my plans through (I’ll explain what all has been going on at the end of this post for those interested.)
So rest assured, Legend is ready for publication and will launch on November 26 (Tuesday!) no matter what else the universe has in store for me. For the sake of my sanity, I truly hope it’s planning to give me a reprieve.
But anyway… Legend.
About Legend
It’s the fourth and final book in The Caein Legacy. The other three books – Exile, Guardian, and Harbinger – will all be on sale for $0.99 starting tomorrow on your favorite ebook retailers to celebrate the conclusion of the series. You can learn more about the series here.
I will also be sharing brand new character artwork, courtesy of the very talented C.B. Lansdell, with my newsletter on November 30. (Not a subscriber? You can sign up to my newsletter here. And yes, it’s a separate mailing list from my blog.)
The promised explanation
February saw the release of Serpentus, but in the weeks leading up to its publication date, my life was upended by a couple things. The first (and more concerning one) was my health scare. I wrote a fairly lengthy post about what all happened back in June. If you’d like to read more about that, the post is here. The second item was our cat, Magic, was sick and we were forced to say goodbye. She was 18, and even though I knew her time was coming, it was still so damned hard.
But despite all of that, I still released Serpentus on schedule. I just didn’t promote it much. I didn’t have the energy or the mindset for marketing.
I had already set up Harbinger for release in May (way back in last November.) Amazon doesn’t take kindly to the cancellation of publication dates, so I made sure I had that book in order and ready to go on time too. I worked on finalizing that book in March in an attempt to distract myself from my grief and the knowledge that I needed surgery to correct my health issue. My surgery was scheduled for May, a couple weeks before the book release.
That was yet another book release month where I couldn’t do much promotion. I wasn’t able to do much at all for almost 3 weeks after the surgery, and it wasn’t until almost September before I started feeling normal again. (Abdominal surgery is no joke.)
Fast forward to this month, and Legend’s scheduled release. I had all of my files uploaded for Legend back in July, which is why I can say the latest wrench the universe has tried to throw in my plans won’t affect the release. There were layoffs at my workplace at the beginning of the month, and they have since indicated more will be coming. As of this writing, I haven’t been cut, but we’re anticipating that news in December. Knowing that the cuts are based on what functions are deemed “business critical” doesn’t give me much confidence that my role will be maintained. I don’t fall into the realm of “business critical.”
But anyway, to make a long story short, Legend will release as planned on Tuesday. The universe is not going to win this round.
