Book Review: Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree
Genre(s): Fantasy
If you’ve ever wondered what an orc warrior does at the end of a long career of adventuring and battle, it’s open a coffee shop, of course.
Legends & Lattes is a story of making friends, changing careers, and finding happiness in life. It’s a light read with a fun cast of characters. Viv is the orc in question, whose dream is to run a coffee shop. Cal (Calamity) is a hob builder who assists her with various projects, Tandri is a succubus she hires to help run the shop, and Thimble is a rattkin baker of considerable talent. (Thimble was my favorite!)
Despite the relative simplicity of the plot, this book was quite engaging and I enjoyed the story very much. The descriptions of the baked goods Thimble produced also left me feeling hungry more times than I care to admit. I also loved how the baked treats even solved some potential problems for Viv—rather than fight, as she would have done in the past, she resolved several conflicts peacefully, and won over one character with cinnamon rolls. (As a baker, I loved this theme!)
If you’re looking for a light-hearted and fun fantasy read, check out Legends & Lattes.
