Book Review: Revived by Barbara Avon
Genre(s): Horror
Content warning: There are some themes of violence, assault, and child abuse contained in this book.
Steven Gold had everything – a great job, a wonderful wife, a bright future. Then a car accident left him clinically dead for one minute. After he awakens, he’s forced to face the (literal) ghosts from his past.
This story begins innocently enough, with Steven and his wife seemingly happy. She has some anxiety issues that become more prominent as the book goes on, and for a while, I thought she would end up doing something to Steven that would turn their life upside-down. (I was wrong.)
After the car accident, Steven begins to see ghosts and have flashbacks from his past. The story goes from innocent to outright creepy very quickly, and the reader discovers Steven isn’t the nice guy they thought he was. By the end, I think he got exactly what he deserved.
I’ve read several other books by this author, and with each one, I continue to be impressed with how she describes the tortured psyche of her characters.
For those who like psychological horror, I definitely recommend this book.
