Focus Interrupted

The month of June has been a bit tumultuous (I like that word, so I had to use it here.) But I wanted to start off this post by saying thank you to everyone who has supported me, my writing, and especially the release of Wraith and the Revolution. It’s a special book for me, and the feedback and reviews so far have been amazing. The writing side of my life has been really good, thanks to all of you.

At the beginning of the month, I was feeling great about pretty much everything. I thought I had finally gotten back into my regular writing routine after almost a year of struggling. I still don’t know exactly happened during/after my surgery last year that disrupted my focus so much, but it was really frustrating. I have so many incredible ideas for stories that I want to work on, but there were days I’d sit down and stare at the screen without getting any words down. It reminded me of the stress-induced writer’s block I had with a previous job, and it wasn’t something I thought I’d experience again anytime soon. But anyway, I had about three weeks of really good writing days. Things were getting better.

But then… Work uncertainty happened.

While my husband and I will be okay financially if things go the way I think they will, the not knowing for sure part has really done a number on my head. I thought I was dealing with it okay, but when I started dreaming about work… Well, that’s a clear sign my subconscious is telling me that I’m not “dealing with it okay.” And when I couldn’t focus on writing anything for a few days, that was another indicator. My focus was once again interrupted.

Somehow, writing this post made the words flow again. Maybe I just needed to work through my uncertainty this way, and now I can get back on track. Here’s hoping for that.

As for what I’m currently writing (other than random blog posts), I’ve been working on the second book in The Fontayne Company duology. As long as I can keep this on track to remain a duology, I will probably publish book 1 in 2027. It’s a cozy fantasy with some romance, featuring a ghost hunting team set in a modern-esque fantasy world, and it has been a lot of fun to write.

I also have a couple revision projects in the queue. One is a short story for a secret project that I will be shouting about as much as I can once we’re given the okay to do so (I’m really excited for it!) The other is a short story that will go out to my newsletter later this year; it’s a prequel story to Wraith and the Revolution featuring Kye about ten years prior to the novel.

But the revisions must wait until I finish drafting the duology (I’m not good at switching between projects, so I usually work on one thing at a time.)

So anyway, here’s hoping I get a definitive answer on the work situation soon, so I can once again focus on the thing I love most: Writing.

And to anyone reading this, thank you again for your support. It really is what keeps me going.

THANK YOU!
