Hunted: The Order
In the world of Hunted, and of the summoners in particular, there is the Order. The Order is the guiding organization for the summoners, providing them with the income and resources to go about their secretive lives and survive in a world that seeks to unmask and destroy them. The Order is led by the Council of Elders and by the Grand Summoner together.
The Council of Elders is made up of a handful of the very eldest of the summoners, some several hundreds of years old. They are elevated to this post in order to provide a guiding hand for the Order, utilizing their collective knowledge and vast experience spanning centuries. It is expected that the summoners of the Order obey the Council’s wishes, though at times, the Council will find itself at odds with the Grand Summoner.
The Grand Summoner is determined by the strength of their individual ability, and not by age or experience. They are seen as the spokesperson of the Order, but may lead the Order toward their own goal or agenda, provided they have the backing of some or all of the Elders. If a new summoner enters the Order and it is determined their strength surpasses that of the current Grand Summoner, he or she will go through a rigorous period of training, and within two months will be named the new Grand Summoner. Though some Grand Summoners lead the order for centuries, others may only lead for a handful of years.
The Order is further organized by the summoners themselves. Each summoner is placed within the hierarchy based upon their individual strength and summoning ability. Summoners can gauge one another on sight, and new summoners quickly learn where their place within the Order stands.
The main purpose of the Order is to protect its summoners from the hunters. The Order provides safe houses throughout the world, where a summoner can take refuge when needed. The headquarters of the Order is the only location where summoners can truly be safe; traditionally, hunters avoid the location of the headquarters as much as possible for their own safety. The Order is also responsible for the training of the trackers, and will assign trackers to each summoner based upon that summoner’s personal needs. Some summoners require only one tracker, while others have four or more.
The Order also funds various “research” projects that individual summoners take a personal interest in. For example, the summoner Ke’tai has a background in genetics, and researches the genetic links between summoners, hunters, trackers, and their unique abilities. There are others who are historians, and some seek to learn new methods of summoning.
The Order is a dynamic organization, shaped and molded by the summoners and trackers who make up its ranks.
