Survivor (A Wraith and the Revolution prequel story)
In the summer of 2024, while I was still on medical leave after my surgery, I had a lot of time to write. And because I wasn’t terribly active during that recovery period (doctor’s orders), I had even more time than usual. And write I did.

The first piece I finished during my time off was Not All Books Are Worth Reading, which was included in The Book of Spores Anthology. I followed that up by finishing the last 8 or so chapters of Agent of Chaos, book 2 in my upcoming Fontayne Company duology. And lastly, during my final week off, I returned to what a couple of my readers have termed the “Wraith-verse” and wrote Survivor.
Survivor is set seven years prior to my novel, Wraith and the Revolution, and covers an element of Kye’s past that was only mentioned in passing early in the book. As those who have read the novel know, Kye had a rough go things before he left Earth. Survivor goes over one of his failed attempts to get off world.
I initially wrote Survivor with the intention of using it as a reader magnet for my newsletter, but after much convincing by a few parties who I will not name here (you know who you are), I’ve decided to offer it as an ebook on retailers too. It’s free through my newsletter*, but $0.99 elsewhere. Pick your poison. 😊
*My newsletter is a once-monthly email that is a separate mailing list from this blog.
About Survivor
Kye Verex is desperate to flee his home world. It’s toxic, polluted, and largely forgotten by the wider galaxy. At nineteen years old, he should have his whole life ahead of him.
The trouble is, his genetics are working against him, and the cost of his treatment continues to increase. He’s going nowhere…unless he devises a foolproof plan.
He’ll take the entrance exams for the Olympos Mons Military Academy and hope the military will pay for his cure. His older sister, a career soldier, assures him it will work, and he’ll be off world soon. After all, she’s coached him for years. The exams should be a breeze.
But first, he’ll have to conquer his test anxiety.
