Book three in The Owl King Archives begins about six months after the conclusion of book two. Evie has learned some troubling news about her ancestry and her role as the Owl King, which she’s compelled to keep secret from Lawrence. Lawrence is keeping secrets of his own…but for another reason.

Their personal life is put on hold however, when an angry and meddlesome witch out for personal gain begins to pit the magical society against the vampires. Evie and Lawrence are forced into the conflict to act as mediators, with the hope they can deescalate the situation before both factions start a war.

I think I enjoyed this third book in the series even more than the previous two. There is more action and the characters’ stories developed further, as did the world-building. Much more was revealed about the Rose Coven and witch society in general, and there was a lot to learn about the vampire society as well. (As a bit of an outsider, there were many things even Lawrence didn’t know.)

The addition of Paxton the owl was a lot of fun. He came to Evie and Lawrence injured, and it was Lawrence who helped him recover. Because of this, Paxton is particularly loyal to them both, and acts as Evie’s emissary to the rest of the owls. He’s got a bit of a personality and some very endearing quirks.

While Evie and Lawrence were once again fighting what seemed to be insurmountable odds, they were accompanied by some old friends—Jacob, Blaise, and Adriane. While not everything goes to plan and there’s definitely an unexpected twist for one of the characters toward the end, this book did finish with a very satisfying and happy ending.

I’m so glad I read this series. It was quite the adventure.
